Match Report

Today saw the Mosborough Under 9 Team travel to Wortley to take part in a three-way match against Wortley and Thorne.

Every member of the team had a strong performance. We saw frequent line breaks from Connor, Ben, Ethan, and Hanlo. While Bobby and Stanley showed no fear in taking on the opposition and driving on sucking in 2-3 defenders at a time. They were all good with ball in hand, taking tackles and keeping possession, also passing the ball out of tackles and create space.

Ben and Lewis have both improved on their running lines, keeping away from the touch line and therefore we have managed to retain a lot more possession than last week. Equally Ben made good use of the touchline by continually tackling the opposition over the touch line, securing Mosborough the ball.

There were also improved tackling from Alex, Lewis and Charlie. Alex putting himself in a good position forcing the opposition to change their direction. Lewis continued with his consistently good tackles around the opposition legs. Charlie has taken on board feedback and improved his tackling by keeping the tackles low.

There were also improvements with support play, Clayton, Fred and Stanley are running good support lines, which offered the tackled players to pass the ball out while being tackled.

Connor showed good leadership by organising the team’s defensive line.

Hanlo and Bobby are showing good awareness while being tackled, they are passing the ball well either just before or while being tackled, this has helped us score tries by keeping the ball moving fast.

Clayton is showing good positioning which allows him to recover lose balls on the ground and he shows no fear securing the ball.

Furthermore, a very well done to Fred and Ethan for playing in their first full contact match, they both did very well and along with the hole team showed great Enthusiasm and determination along with superb sportsmanship by volunteering to help Wortley and Thorne put out 7 players, even when Wortley and Thorne were playing against each other.

From both Euan and Corné a big thank you and a very well done! Thank you also to the Parents who played taxi and for your support on the touch line.

Star of the Week

Charlie today showed that he took feedback from the coaches on board by improving his tackling, he also continued with his outstanding performance from last week and kept putting pressure on the opposition and forcing them to make mistakes.

He always put in 100% effort, this is shown by his line speed that sees some relentless tackles being made, forcing the opposition to lose ground. He also moves well with the ball in hand, making a couple of clean breaks and scoring tries. He also showed good perception skills by getting in a position which allowed him to intercept opposition passes.
