Under 10's Match Report
Under 10's vs Barnsley 21 October 2018
It was a beautiful Sunday morning and the sun was out and there seemed to be a noticeable increase of Fortnight silly dances which has overtook the floss (which is not a bad thing)! However, back to the game - it was great to see a Mosborough win (18 – 2).
Barnsley Rugby Club brought only four players, so there was a good opportunity for Mosborough to do some one-2-one coaching with our new players to ensure they have a smooth transition into the team.
Mosborough team took turns to make up the numbers for Barnsley with Joel, Owen, James and Harrison all happy to put the bibs on and battle the first half for Barnsley.
The first half kicked off at a frantic pace with a great score of 9 – 0, there were tries from Will (A.K.A Geoff who got 4 – apparently a bacon buttie with brown sauce before the match was the key!), a hat trick of tries from Lewis and 2 for Henry.
It definitely looked like our extra training is paying off as we were much improved as a squad this week. Great work from Geoff, Oliver and Caleb for stealing the ball from Barnsley at every opportunity, there were some great layoffs from Katie to spread the ball out to the wings, good strong pushing from Oliver F to send the defenders towards their try line.
Barnsley fought hard to push Mosborough back, Joel came very close but didn’t quite manage to get a point for Barnsley but kept a smile on his face and his white socks clean! Also James managed to get a knee to the face but this didn’t deter him because he has finally got his wish and he has a black eye!
The second half started as we had left off with Logan (who had left his game face in his bed), Lewis, Caleb and Oliver putting the bibs on to help out Barnsley and getting them organised and motivated. They all showed improvement with their tackling and defending.
Through their hard work Barnsley got on the score board with a couple of tries from Lewis which got him the ‘man of the match award - but all his good work was undone with his time in the ‘sin bin’ for sneaky trip on his Mosborough team mate.
Mosborough always looked dangerous with the ball, and it was good to see that the ball carrier had support. They had to adapt slightly this half and came up to the attacking team quickly whilst keeping the defensive line. Scoring continued with tries from Joel, Will/Geoff (plus had time for a little showboating) and Matt all got 2, Henry, Owen and James got 1 each.
This was a great match where Mosborough definitely shined bright and we will look forward to our next match, I believe today's win was a team effort and each and every player out there contributed to our win...well done. But in saying that it doesn't stop there, there are still areas that we need to improve on and room to grow - preparation is key!
