It was Seneca the Elder who once said “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”, and so it was on another wet day in Mosborough, when the Mosborough young Lions lines up against Dronfield U9.

Was a different team there today, more in unison, putting in loads of tackles and putting pressure on Dronfield at every opportunity.  The training is clearly paying off.

Dronfield brought enough players to warrant two matches.  The first match was a pretty close affair, equal until the second half of the second half where Mosborough just succumbed to a couple of defensive errors which allowed Dronfield to edge in front.  The game was punctuated with some ace tries from Archie, Eli, Josh, and a great Rhino charge from Finn which allowed Henry D to slam the ball over the try line.  Score finished at 12-11 to Dronfield.

After a brief rest, the boys lined up again for Dronfields next team.

“Cry 'Havoc!,' and let slip the dogs of war” one young Lion called!  (Or maybe “Defensive like on me”), nether the less, the call was heeded, and without doubt, the Mosborough U9’s played the best rugby they have played all season.  Lots of tries getting run in, including some fantastic breakaway run/tries from new comer Josh.  What was notable though, in the last few moments of the game as the watching Dronfield players cheered on their compatriots, there was no way that Mosborough was going to let them get another try.  They showed dogged determination, Tackle after tackle rained in, until at last the final whistle blew and Mosborough got their first victory of the season, well done boys!  14-13 to Mosborough.

Man of the match deservedly to Henry Dawson - never giving up, even with 3 Dronfield players trying to drag him down!

Thanks to Eden, Dronfield supporters and Mosborough supporters for a really good turnout and game.
