It was a drizzly day at Dronfield. The ball had barely started moving when a group hug (scrum-Ed.) was called. A good saving tackle from Conor led to a cheerleader bit (lineout-Ed.) which was caught by Dronfield and led to their first try. They made the conversion leading to a score of 0-7. A good kick from Conor restarted the game. Sam was top of the pyramid for the next line out and caught the ball leading to another group hug. Good tackles followed from Robert, Joseph, Jacob and Rodine then a good run by Joel, but none led to a score. Lots more good tackles meant it took Dronfield a while to score their second try, this time without a conversion.
A fantastic tackle by Jacob led to Joseph stealing the ball from the other side before their number 13 broke through the line and ran a quarter of the pitch before anyone could get near him. Another conversion led to a score of 0-19.
Lots more group hugs and cheerleader action - Dronfield are clearly the stronger side but Mosborough are not making it easy for them. Jacob put in an excellent tackle near the line, it was kicked by Connor, caught by Dronfield, who were tackled by Rodine and then it was back to another group hug. A football appeared on the pitch, but that didn't put off the players and it was ably rescued by Finley. Ciaran put Dronfield under pressure leading to a big kick from Conor and a run to the middle. As the half time whistle blew, the score was 0-31. The ref came over to tell us Conor's performance as a skipper had been exemplary (just as Sam was preparing a tongue-lashing for him for the journey home).
As we start the second half, the Mosborough boys are 'proper fighting for it'. Good tackles from Rodine stop the score line getting higher. It's getting chilly now, with the sort of fine rain that gets you wet. Maybe that's why there are so many group hugs? The score creeps higher during the second half and we start to drop the ball. Several good tackles by Ciaran but this doesn't stop them scoring again. The final score is 0-60. The boys played well, it was a fair, clean game (although Rodine's originally white shorts would suggest otherwise). The boys played well all the way to the end and Dronfield were 'a good team to lose against'. All that was left to do was to wait for the chip butties and award Reuben and Joseph as well deserved men of the match.
